Steve Gary

Guitarist-Singer-Songwriter Steve Gary was born and raised in San Jose.
At age four he got his first taste of the lime-light in a grade school
production. Since that tender age, he has been enamored with being on
stage.
Begriming to play music at the age of six, Steve had
the opportunity Throughout his youth to experiment and perform several
instruments, fro the trumpet, trombone, guitar bass, as well as singing
in the choir and performing in theatre. He was a prodigy of sorts having
many commanding roles in various capacities from marching bands, to
lead roles in theatre production, both in school and the community.
Though through his school years his musical talents were
utilized in many capacities, for which he was well recognized by his
peers, as well as the community, appeared in half- time shows, as well
as being a featured vocalist in the 1976 Bicentennial tour of the U.S.,
playing 23 cities nationwide. His heart was in , playing the guitar,
performing singing and song- writing. He
Steve left college to pursuit his of his passion, playing
gigs in and around the San Francisco Bay area. He relocated to LA to
in pursuit of opportunities to realize these goals. He later returned
to his roots and even started the Barbershop Quartet "Pacifica", which
was awarded the honor of "top new quartet of the year in 1981."
He performed in the "Hollywood Chorale", representing
the city of Hollywood in the form of a 16-voice jazz choir. He performed
in the country band "Grand Junction" as acoustic guitarist and lead
and backing vocalist and appears on their release "You're Not Alone".
In 1983 Steve agreed to take on directing the Barbershop
Quartet "Augmented Force" which lasted for 7 years. The group reconfigured
during the holidays as a Caroling group and performed at parties all
over the Beverly Hills/Bellaire/Malibu area, performing for such stars
as Sammy Davis Jr. He also picked up the Bass and started performing
with a variety of top-40 bands. He session vocalist for live and studio
performances, doing vocals for 6 albums, as well as the single "Far
Away Lands" recorded by David Pomeranz and Russian pop star Sasha Malinin.
He also backed up Edgar Winter for his performance at the LA Street
Scene in 1986.
Steve returned to the stage as performer and songwriter,
writing 4 songs and a featured performer in the musical "The Way To
Happiness". This show had two runs in Hollywood, in 1987 and again
in 1989.
For 16 years Steve was a featured performer on a Cruise
Ship based in the Caribbean. He was Music Director, bassist and vocalist
of the house band He, wrote songs for and performed in various musical
reviews and stage presentations, while the band backed a wide array
of international performers in all genres. In keeping with his versatile
nature, he also learned pop instrumentals on acoustic guitar and performed
as a solo guitar/vocalist in various venues around the Ship. All in
all, Steve estimates he has done more than 10,000 performances.
Longing to pursue his solo career in his home town, Steve
came back to the Bay Area in December, and immediately drew upon his
expertise- from instrumental guitar to performing easy listening favorites
and playing bass in a Stevie Ray Vaughn tribute band, in San Francisco
and the South Bay. He has also recorded and released 2 CDs, featuring
his song writing talents. He also produced a one hour collection of
instrumental guitar music.
What people remember from seeing Steve perform, apart
from his clear, strong voice and accomplished instrumentals, is his
sheer love of music and performing. He has a passion for music which
is evident in his performances.
